Christians in Action Wrap Boxes for Bay Area Turning Point
Tue, May 16, 2017
Members of the Christians in Action Sunday School Class met in the gym for their annual Bay Area Turning Point Wrapping Party. Nineteen members wrapped boxes for Bay Area Turning Point in Webster. The boxes were filled by the class with toiletries and other essentials that a person will need when arriving at the Bay Area Turning Point shelter. The class prepared and wrapped 54 boxes for women and children and 6 boxes for men. The class has been donating boxes to Bay Area Turning Point for nearly 15 years.
Bay Area Turning Point provides shelter to women, their children, and occasionally men who are fleeing situations of domestic violence and sexual assault. Many times women, children, or men arrive at the shelter with nothing, not even a tooth brush. In addition to the shelter, Bay Area Turning Point provides recovery services to child and adult victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. BATP also works toward eliminating domestic and sexual violence through prevention and education.
At the wrapping party the Christians in Action enjoyed a plenteous and delicious covered dish supper. After dinner and wrapping boxes, Jerry and Karen Ross took the class on a trek Down Under with slides from a trip to Australia and New Zealand.
Christians in Action is a group of adults from 45 to 95 years old who enjoy in-depth studies and have a heart for missions and mission projects. In addition to boxes for Bay Area Turning Point, the class annually donates boxes at Christmastime to the Houston International Seafarer's Center, contributes to ARK (At Risk Kids), adopts families for Thanksgiving Basket and Christmas J.O.Y., supports the Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya, and participates in other projects throughout the year. On May 21, the Christians in Action class will join the Searchers class for a presentation by Unbound – Houston on human trafficking. On May 28, Christians in Action will begin an 8-week study of Islam. The class invites you to join them. Christians in Action meet in FLC103 at 9:45.
