Holy Week 2018 Worship Services

We want to extend a warm invitation for you and your family to join us at Friendswood Methodist the week of March 25 – April 1.  Please join us as we celebrate Holy Week, the week we remember with all of Christianity across the world the last days of Jesus’ earthly ministry, his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the institution of the sacrament of communion, his difficult death and finally his earth-shaking resurrection.  Each of our worship services will be very different than one another at each milestone of the week, some somber, some powerful and moving.  We are looking forward to sharing the entire experience with you!

Palm Sunday, Sunday March 25

In ancient times, palm branches symbolized goodness and victory.  Palm Sunday commemorates the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in his path, before his arrest on Holy Thursday and his crucifixion on Good Friday.   Join us Sunday, March 25 for our traditional worship services at 8:30 & 11:05 featuring choirs, bells and our orchestra.  Our 9:45 Prayer & Praise Palm Sunday service will be led by our Celebrate praise team.

Holy Thursday, Thursday March 29

Holy Thursday (also known in various Christian traditions around the world as Maundy Thursday or Covenant Thursday) is the Christian holy day commemorating the washing of the disciples’ feet by Jesus and of his Last Supper with the Apostles then his descent towards his death.  As part of our historical connection to the larger church across time, Friendswood Methodist will celebrate Holy Thursday with a Service of Tenebrae.  The Service of Tenebrae (Tenebrae meaning “darkness” in Latin) follows a tradition of the church dating back to the eighth century.  Join us Thursday, March 29 as the Chancel Choir, strings, oboe & organ lead us on this somber portion of our journey towards Sunday morning and the Resurrection.

Good Friday, Friday March 30

Good Friday (which evolved in folk etymology from "God Friday") commemorates the final dark hours of Jesus as he is sentenced by Pilate, subsequently beaten, crucified and ends with his death.  Join us Friday, March 30 at 7:00 pm as our Celebrate worship team leads us in acoustic song and subdued prayer as we worship togther in somber remembrance and expectation of what is to come Sunday.

Easter Sunday, April 1

The culmination and high festival of Christianity across the globe is Easter Sunday where we celebrate the powerful resurrection from the dead of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Celebrated every year since his resurrection, we will join with all Christians across time as we celebrate the reconnection of humankind back to God.  Join us Sunday, April 1 at 8:30 & 11:05 for our traditional worship services featuring the Chancel Choir, Spirit Singers and the orchestra. Our 9:45 Prayer & Praise service will be led by our Celebrate praise team.
