Trail Life / American Heritage Girls at Friendswood Methodist

Wed, May 9, 2018

At a recent meeting of the Board of Stewards several members of the church made a proposal for Friendswood Methodist to charter a boy’s Trail Life Troop as well as an American Heritage Girls Troop. These families were already involved in these organizations and wanted to see if we would sponsor them for the Friendswood community.

According to its purpose statement, “Trail Life USA is a Christ-centered outdoor adventure, leadership, and character development ministry.” Likewise, American Heritage Girls states its purpose as “Building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country.” Both organizations embrace biblical and Christian values in fulfilling their respective mission.

The Board accepted the proposal and unanimously agreed to charter both organizations.

Although both organizations are similar to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, they offer a different emphasis that some parents were seeking in developing their children into young women and men. The Board did not believe that sponsoring these two new groups would be in conflict with our current chartering of Cub and Boy Scouts Troop here. The Girl Scouts organization does not charter their troops through churches, but we have always been supportive of church members involved in Girl Scouts and assist in how we can.

We will continue to fully support our current scouting ministry.  The Board thought our sponsorship of these two new organizations would provide additional avenues for parents in our community to help their children grown and develop to young men and women of faith and character.
