Sam McRae, New Pastor of Outreach and Missions
I am excited to announce that Sam McRae will join the Friendswood Methodist ministry team as our new Pastor of Outreach and Missions. Sam married his wife Katie in June 2017 and they are expecting their first child, Ezekiel, around Easter. Last year, Sam and Katie moved back to Kentucky to care for their nephews, Ridley, who just turned four, and Silas, age two. Shortly before Christmas, a Kentucky family court awarded Sam and Katie permanent custody of the boys.
Sam is 26 years old. He grew up in San Diego, California in a Methodist parsonage. Both his parents are Methodist pastors in California, as well as his Grandfather. Sam says, “I felt the calling from the Holy Spirit to become a pastor when I was in 5th grade. I accepted the Lord into my heart when I was a child and have always wanted to share the love of Christ with others.”
Sam graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in May of 2017. While in seminary he focused on discipleship, evangelism, and church planting. He comes from the Cal-Pac Conference as a candidate for ordained ministry and will transfer his candidacy to the Texas Conference. He will initially join our ministry team as staff member and should be appointed as a local pastor in September, once he completes Texas Conference requirements this summer. He will then continue his ordination process as an Elder in the United Methodist Church. Sam has a passion to share his faith in Jesus and reach out in mission to others. He and Katie have both been on several mission trips and additional mission training in various settings.
Katie grew up in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. Her entire family and extended family reside in Jessamine County and Fayette County (Central Kentucky). Katie has a passion for her family, fitness (a certified personal trainer), and missions. She loves the Lord and that love is evident in the way she treats others. Katie has a big heart for God’s people and always strives to be the love of Christ to those around her.
Sam and Katie have faced considerable change for a young couple, but as Sam says, “Life following Christ has been quite adventurous for Katie and I in our first year and a half of marriage. It is by His strength we are able to endure and endure with joy.” Debbie and I had an opportunity to spend a weekend with Sam, Katie and the boys last month and they are a great family who will be a blessing to our church.
Sam and Katie, along with Ridley, Silas and Ezekiel will move down in June and begin ministry here in July. Please join me in praying for Sam and Katie as they make this transition to Friendswood in the coming months.
Grace and peace,
Jim
NOTE: As of this writing, the Bishop and Cabinet are still in process of appointing a new Pastor of Congregational Care to follow Rosemary. Please keep this in your prayers.
