Hurricane Laura Relief

Thu, September 3, 2020

Friendswood Methodist Church knows all too well the impacts that Hurricanes leave in the Gulf Community. That is why we are coming together to pull our resources to help out our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in the United Methodist Louisiana Conference. There are two churches in particular that need our assistance. The first is University UMC located in Lake Charles, LA and the second is Henning Memorial UMC in Sulphur, LA. The church located in Lake Charles, LA was one of the churches in the UM Louisiana Conference hit hardest by Hurricane Laura and as you can see in the photos their buildings are severely damaged. The church located in Sulphur, La also has had water and wind damage from the 150 mph hurricane and that community is in need as well.

We will continue to collect any donations and be praying for the people at University UMC and Henning Memorial UMC and their communities. As of Thursday Sept 10, there is still no power available for those communities within an hour east or west or the churches! 97% of schools in those areas are severely damaged so there is currently no classes, virtual or in-person happening. One of the churches has over $1 million in damages, the other has to come up with $200,000 just for their insurance deductible.

If the Lord puts it on your heart to support these churches, all donations collected will go to supporting these churches in need. This past Sunday, we have collected $10,000. We will be mailing our financial support to these churches to help them get the supplies they need for their rebuild, their congregation, and local communities.

We will continue to collect any donations and be praying for the people at University UMC and Henning Memorial UMC and their communities. Thank you Friendswood Methodist for your support and love.
