Hope Against Hope, the First Sermon Series of 2021
Mon, December 21, 2020
Abraham has been called the father of faith, and for good reason. In faith he stepped into the unknown and followed when the Lord called him. In faith he believed the Lord’s promise, despite his age, to make a father of a great nation. In faith trusted that God would provide when asked to sacrifice Isaac, the child of promise.
The Apostle Paul said of Abraham’s faith in Romans 4.18: “Hoping against hope, he believed that he would become “the father of many nations,” according to what was said, ‘So numerous shall your descendants be.’” (NRSV) Abraham wasn’t perfect. Sometimes he failed to live up to the faith he professed, but in the end and against all hope, Abraham hoped and believed in the Lord and his promise.
As we step into a new year, we will look at the life and faith of Abraham, and what lessons about faith, trust and hoping in the Lord we can learn from our father of faith. Join us January 10 as we step forward into the new year with a new sermon series.
