New Sermon Series "Seven Signs" Begins February 14
Signs are essential to daily living. Signs tell us how fast we can drive down the road; when to go, slow down and stop at intersections; when to make right or left turns, what exit to take from the freeway. Signs tell us not only where we are going, but when we have arrived, and they direct us once we are at our destination. No pun intended, but without signs, we would all be lost. ...Ok, maybe some pun intended.
As vital as road and directional signs are, Spiritual signs are even more critical in our journey with God. The Gospel of John records seven specific signs or miracles that Jesus performed. Each one shows us who Jesus is and why he came. John 20.21 says, “these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.”
As we begin the season of Lent, we are going to look at these seven signs or miracles and what each one shows us about the life Jesus offers those who believe and follow him.
This Sunday, we will begin with the first recorded miracle Jesus performed in John 2.1-11 at a wedding in Canna of Galilee. They had run out of wine, and his mother turns to him for help. The miracle is more than providing more wine for the wedding feast, and it is a sign that Jesus brings real joy and life to people.
