Building Update (As of April 22, 2021)
We received the insurance adjuster’s report on the damage to the Worship Center last week. It was an extensive 72-page report! The initial estimate to restore the Worship Center is $318,000. I say initial because this does not include the clean-up cost after the flooding, nor the cost to repair the fire suppression system. Those are covered and will be added to the total.
The Board of Stewards approved a company to begin work repairing the fire suppression system. They are confident the system can be completely restored in the next few weeks, unless they encounter unforeseen issues. This is an important first step to putting the building back. Once that work is finished, we can move forward with repairing the drywall, flooring, carpeting, painting, etc. We are receiving bids for a general contractor to oversee this work and should make a decision in the next several weeks.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Worship Center Restoration Fund. As of this week, we have received $32,000 to cover our deductible and other costs of fully restoring the building that is beyond the insurance coverage. You can give to the Restoration Fund either by noting that on your check or online by choosing “worship center restoration” in the pull-down menu.
Until the sanctuary is completely restored, we will continue to gather in Wesley Hall to worship at 9:30 am for Celebrate, and 11:00 am for traditional service. Please join us in person or online at https://worship.friendswoodmethodist.org.
