Executive Summary of Missions Report 2021

Tue, May 10, 2022

There are two primary goals when it comes to Missions and Outreach Ministries of Friendswood Methodist Church. The first is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone everywhere and the second is to demonstrate the love of Christ. I believe it is absolutely crucial that the Holy Spirit leads us as a church when it comes to engaging in Missions and Outreach. When one reads Acts 1:8 it helps outline one’s ministry: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” In our modern context, one can think of Friendswood being our “Jerusalem,” the cities surrounding us (like Pearland, Alvin, League City, and Clear Lake) being our “Judea,” Houston being our “Samaria,” and of course Texas, the United States, and the rest of the world being our “ends of the earth.”

We as a church have 23 missions and outreach ministries. In 2021, we received $86,793.52 in donations and spent $82,263.05. The ministries helped provide the following: food to over 495 families; 1200 Bibles for veterans; work on 24 properties; supply Christmas to 193 individuals; support rent/utility bills for 80 families; support communities in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana impacted by natural disasters; donated 74 units of blood; helped facilitate sharing the gospel with 460 children; mentored 11 Kids Hope students; provided diapers and supplies for children to 30 foster parents; sent 74 students and adults on mission trips; collected 103 bags of school supplies for Wedgewood Elementary School; gathered 171 personal care packages for food pantry clients; fundraised over $25,000 for our benevolence ministry; and supported 2 missionary couples in their ministry to spread the gospel in America and around the globe.

None of this would have been possible without the Lord, the volunteers and lay leadership He provided, or the financial contributions by church members like you. Thank you.
