An Important Message from the Board of Stewards

Thu, June 23, 2022

Dear Friendswood Methodist Family:

The Board of Stewards voted unanimously on Sunday, June 12, to enter a time of discernment to consider our alignment as a church.

Tuesday evening, the Board met and began to craft that discernment process. Although we are still working through the details, we have decided to start 40 days of discernment in August, leading to a church conference vote in mid-September. According to The Book of Discipline, all professing (full) church members are eligible to vote. Persons must be present to vote. There is no proxy, absentee, or online voting.

This discernment will include multiple town hall meetings, in-person and on zoom, small group discussions, surveys, and an information page on the website with links to the different perspectives. The Board is meeting again after the July 4 holiday to finalize our discernment plans, with more specific information and calendar dates. We will share that once completed.

As we prepare to enter into this season to consider the future of our church, the Board asks that we seek the Lord’s leading in prayer and season our conversations with grace and love.

Lay Leader and Chair of the Board of Stewards
